Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) is the first sorority in the United States established by and for Black women. It was founded on January 15, 1908, by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle and 15 other students at Howard University in Washington, D.C.. AKA is the oldest Greek-lettered organization founded by African-American women who have college educations.
